Can I customize my Quick Access Toolbar?
The FCS Express interface can be customized to allow quick access to the most common tools that are used for your analysis.
This can be done in two ways:
Please note that for macOS users, the Quick Access Toolbar is not available. Users will only be able to customize the Ribbon. For directions, click here.
The customization tool can be accessed by clicking on the downward triangle in the upper left of an FCS Express layout.
Customize the Quick Access Toolbar
When the Custom Quick Access Toolbar option is selected, the following window appears:
This window allows the user to choose commands that can be added directly to the Quick Access Toolbar. The user can find current commands that are located within the Ribbon, or, commands that are not located in the Ribbon, such as many of the commands that are found from the File tab. The user can add as many commands in the Quick Access Toolbar that can they can fit.
To add a command to the Quick Access Toolbar, the user simply needs to:
- Find the command, either from All Commands, a specific tab on the Ribbon, or a command that is currently not in the Ribbon.
- Click on the right-pointing triangle to add the command to the Quick Access Toolbar.
If a user wants to remove a command from the Quick Access Toolbar, they can simply select the command from the list of commands that have been added to the Quick Access Toolbar and then click on the left-pointing triangle. The user can also right click on the command and choose Remove.
Also, the user can choose to view the Quick Access Toolbar below the Ribbon by selecting the action from the Quick Access Toolbar menu.
Any customizations that are done to the Quick Access Toolbar can be reset by clicking on the Reset option in the lower left corner of the Quick Access Toolbar Customization window.
Customize the Ribbon
The user can also customize the Ribbon by:
- putting new commands onto existing tabs, or,
- creating new Tabs or Groups and adding commands to those tabs or groups.
From the Customize Quick Access Toolbar menu, select Customize the Ribbon. In this window, you can add commands to existing tabs or groups. You can also create your own tab or group.
A Group is a section on a tab. For example, the current Home tab is broken down into the groups Clipboard, Pages, Font, and Editing.
When the Ribbon Customization window opens, the concept is similar to how the Quick Access Toolbar is formatted.
The user will find the command that they would like to add, either from an existing tab on the Ribbon, or, a command that is not currently within the Ribbon.
If the user would like to add a command to an existing tab or group, they can:
- Select the command on the left.
- Select the tab or group to which they would like to add the command.
- Click on the right-pointing triangle to add the command.
To create a New Tab or Group, click on the Add button, then on New Tab or New Group.
A New Tab and Group can be renamed and moved to a different spot in the Ribbon.
Also, you can right click on the New Tab and Group to rename, remove or move.
Finally, once everything has been customized within the Ribbon Customization window, click OK to enable the customization.
The user can reset any customization with the ribbon by selecting the Reset option that is seen in the lower left corner of the Ribbon Customization window.
In macOS, there is no Quick Access Toolbar to customize. However, you can customize the Ribbon by creating new tabs and groups similar to as seen above.
As seen in Windows, you can customize the Ribbon from the menu at the top of the FCS Express layout.
When the Ribbon Customization window opens, the user can:
- Select the command to be added to an existing or new tab or group.
- Add a New Tab or Group.
- Select the Tab and Group to which the command will be added.
- Click on the right-pointing triangle to add the command.
- Use the up or down arrows to change the location of the tab and group.
- Click OK to enable the customization.
The user can reset any customization with the ribbon by selecting the Reset option that is seen in the lower left corner of the Ribbon Customization window.
