Each FCS Express license requires the use of a configuration file.  FCS Express cannot run without a configuration file.

The owner of the license may provide the .config file to the end-user via email, thumb drive, or other electronic means.

The overall point of this method is that the .config file is manually provided to the end user so that they can complete the steps listed below.

The .config file can be obtained in the following ways:

• From your computer, following these steps.
• From your De Novo Software account on our website
  • Log into your De Novo Software account here.
  • Click Active Licenses.
  • Under the Purchased Licenses section, click the download icon under the column called Config File.

In this scenario, the end user can use the instructions below to download, install, and configure FCS Express.

1. Download the FCS Express software package that's right for your computer:

• FCS Express for Windows
• FCS Express for Mac

2  Install FCS Express according to the instructions found here.

3. Launch FCS Express.

4. Configure FCS Express according to the instructions found here.

Please note:

• The end-user with whom this license is being shared must have a De Novo Software account.
• Users can register for a De Novo Software account here.

To access their active license, the license owner can log into their account here.

1. Click on Active Licenses.

2. Under the Purchased Licenses section, select the USB dongle or Countercode license you wish to share.

3. Under the Shared Licenses section, click Share.

4. Enter the email address of the user with whom you wish to share the license. This should be their De Novo Software account. Click Share.

The license should also appear in the end-user's De Novo Software account on our website. When they log in, and click on Active Licenses the license should appear under the Shared Licenses section.

5. Once the license has been officially shared with a user, that user can use the instructions below to download, install, or configure FCS Express.

• Download the FCS Express software package that's right for your computer:
  • FCS Express for Windows
  • FCS Express for Mac
• Install FCS Express according to the instructions found here.
• Launch FCS Express.
• Configure FCS Express according to the instructions found here.

6. If the end user is looking to obtain a countercode, they can use the instructions found here.

The main advantage that the electronic method has over the manual method is that users will be able to obtain countercodes through their account rather than having to use the account of the license owner.

Otherwise, the user trying to obtain the countercode will have to use the instructions listed in Step 6 to manually obtain a countercode or email us directly to obtain a countercode that can be pasted into the Countercode Setup Wizard.

Please note - sharing a countercode license does mean that that particular license can be installed on multiple workstations.

The benefit of sharing a countercode is that the user can obtain a countercode when the time comes for the FCS Express installation to be locked to a specific computer, rather than having to rely on the license owner.
