How can quadrants be linked?

A new linked set of quadrants can be created from a single existing set of quadrants using the following method:

In the Gate Navigator or Gate View:

• Right-click on a set of Quadrants and select Create Linked Gate
• The Create Linked Gate dialog window will appear. The Preferred Link Suffix can be modified as desired.

• After clicking OK a new quadrant set will appear in the Gate Navigator or Gate View.
• Linked quadrants can be moved to any location in the hierarchy by drag and drop.
• To view the new linked quadrants on a plot, right-click on the plot and select Quadrants > the new linked quadrants. 

In FCS Express 7.20 and later gates are automatically created for quadrants. A quadrant gate can be applied to a plot to only display the cells within the quadrant.

This can be done by selecting a plot and then selecting the desired quadrant from the Current Gate dropdown menu in the Gating tab.

Alternatively, a single quadrant can be dragged from the Gate Navigator or Gate View onto a plot.

When the quadrant is repositioned, the cells displayed on the other plot update in real time.

In FCS Express 7.20 and later, each quadrant is already a gate which can be applied to other plot. However, a user may wish to create a new gate that has the same position as an existing quadrant gate to use the gate elsewhere in the gating hierarchy. To do this, a Linked Gate can be created.

1. Select the centerpoint of the quadrants of interest
2. In the Selected Gate or Quadrants Properties category of the plot's format menu, expand the section called Linked Quad Gates. Click Create.
3. In the Create Gate dialog, select a Quadrant Gate from the dropdown menu (e.g. the Upper-Right quadrant) . Click OK.

The new linked gate will appear in the Gate Navigator and Gate View. This gate maintains the same dimensions as the quadrant it is linked to (e.g. Upper-Right).
