The De Novo Software Team

David Novo, President and Founder
David received his PhD in Biophysics from UCLA. His research concentrated on developing novel optical and mathematical techniques for measurements and analysis of localized fluorescent Calcium transients from a microdomain within a muscle cell. David also built several confocal microscopes, as well as writing the data acquisition and data analysis systems. Prior to commencing his PhD, David worked with Dr. Howard Shapiro, one of the leaders in the field of flow cytometry, performing research on membrane potential determination in bacteria using flow cytometry. During the course of this research they built several flow cytometers custom made for bacterial measurements. Two papers were published on the subject. David still maintains close ties to the flow cytometry community through his appointment to the Data Standards Committee of the International Society of Analytical Cytometry. This committee maintains the flow cytometry data file standard and deals with issues standardizing all sorts of flow cytometry related data storage and analysis issues. David frequently consults on data analysis issues related to flow cytometry and collaborates on many projects involving novel data analysis requirements.

Tanya TolmachoffDirector of Sales and Marketing
Tanya brings many years of cytometry based experience with her to De Novo Software. She learned flow cytometry at Cedars Sinai Medical Center in the Division of Immunology & Cytometry working as a licensed Medical Technologist.  While at CSMC, Tanya earned her ASCP certification as a Specialist in Immunology, performed didactic lectures for the School of Med. Technology, functioned as the Immunology Division's Pathology Resident Teaching Facilitator, and was the primary instructor for a CAP approved Practicum covering Image Analysis & Flow Cytometry DNA analysis techniques.  Focusing on image analysis, she co-authored several scientific papers as well as a chapter in Image Analysis: A Primer for Pathologists.   Tanya joined Beckman Coulter Inc. as the Southern California Cytometry Accounts Manager and later became the Cytometry Systems Specialist for the South Western Region covering CA, AZ, NM, TX, and HI.     Tanya graduated Magna Cum Laude with a BS in Microbiology from California State University, Fresno.

Daniel Zimmerman, Chief Technical Officer
After getting his start in the computer science program at McGill University, and in the IBM development lab in Toronto, Daniel has spent the past 11 years at De Novo Software, writing code, guiding program design and overseeing the extensive testing infrastructure and quality systems.

Sean Burke, Senior Product Manager
Sean received his M.S. degree in Biology from New York University. At NYU he utilized flow cytometry to study interactions between multiple HIV-1 viruses within single cells and acted as operator of the College of Dentistry Flow Cytometry Core facility. Prior to NYU he worked at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer center developing methods for automated microscopic analysis of tissue sections at the single cell level.  Over the years he has acquired vast experience with image analysis and flow cytometry techniques.

Juan Vazquez, Manager - Customer Support
After receiving his ASCP certification, Juan worked at Brigham and Womens Hospital in Boston. He then joined BD Biosciences as a Technical Applications Specialist, helping clinical customers with all their flow cytometry related needs. His experience and enthusiasm is tremendously popular with FCS Express customers.

Hemant Agrawal, Technical Applications Specialist
After obtaining his PhD in Immunology from the University Hospital Essen, Germany he later joined OMRF, Oklahoma City as an Associate Research Scientist in the Immunology and Arthritis Program. Thereafter, he was recruited as a Research Associate Scientist at the Rheumatology Department at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Chicago. He then joined TreeStar, Inc as an application support scientist for the Indian subcontinent and Middle, helping customers with data analysis. Dr. Agrawal is also the director of Flowcytometry Solutions Pvt Ltd, an organization, which imparts training and consultancy in the field of flow cytometry. Over the years, he has gained experience in flow cytometry data acquisition and analysis and will be providing technical support and training to customers in India region.

Amanda Dickson, Technical Applications Specialist
Amanda was a technician in a neuroscience laboratory and later an animal surgery techniques course instructor and advanced microscope manager in the Stem Cell Research Center Core facility at the University of California, Irvine. She then joined Essen BioScience as a Field Application Scientist, assisting live-cell imaging customers in experimental design and data analysis, as well as providing trainings across the western region of North America.

Andrea Valle, Technical Applications Specialist
Andrea is based in Italy and received his PhD in Cellular and Molecular Biology from San Raffaele Hospital in Milan Italy in 2014 which was followed by an M.S. degree in Statistics for Genomics and Medicine. Andrea has worked closely with flow cytometry data analysis and experiments in a variety of settings since 2008 while working on immune tolerance in Type 1 Diabetes. Over the years he has gained additional skills in data analysis and R programming through his post graduate studies and laboratory work.

Kaya Ghosh, Technical Applications Specialist
Kaya earned her PhD in molecular parasitology while performing research at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Rutgers University. She used advanced light- and electron-microscopy methods to investigate the ultrastructure of the microsporidia, a phylum of tiny unicellular fungus-like parasites, and her work was featured on the cover of the journal Infection and Immunity in 2011. After attending the Molecular Parasitology course at the Marine BIological Laboratory in Woods Hole, Mass., she became interested in immunology and went on to pursue postdoctoral studies at Einstein, using mouse models of autoimmunity and infectious disease. Now at De Novo Software, Kaya uses her extensive background in flow cytometry and advanced microscopy to help De Novo Software's customers perfect their data analysis technique, whether they are working in research, commercial, or clinical laboratories.

Sarah Schuett, Technical Applications Specialist
Sarah started her career in flow cytometry at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center Flow Cytometry Core in Boston. She worked in multiple core facilities and industry before leaving her position as core facility manager at North Carolina State University to join De Novo Software. She brings her love of training new users to become proficient in flow cytometry data analysis to the team.
