Knowledgebase - Where is the configuration information stored?

The configuration file ends in a .config extension and usually has your FCS Express serial number as part of the file name.

If you are looking for your configuration file on a Mac, please click here.

If you are unable to log into your FCS Express license, please click here.

You can find the configuration file that FCS Express is using by going to the File tab->Help->Options.

The complete path to the configuration file will show on the About screen as displayed below:

If you are using a network license:

The default location of the configuration file is in the directory where FCS Express.exe is located, usually within the FCS Express 6 Flow Research Edition folder.

If the configuration is not located in that directory, the file will be located in a folder parallel to where the FCS Express.exe file is located. The folder will be called "Config".

For instance, if FCS Express was installed at: \\server\share\De Novo Software\FCS Express 6 Flow Research Edition-Win32 then the configuration will be contained in a folder in the path at \\server\share\De Novo Software\Config .

Please see our knowledgebase page regarding running 32-bit and 64-bit versions of FCS Express on the same network license for details on the configuration file location in that installation type.

If you are using a standalone license:

  • On Windows 2000 and XP, go to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\De Novo Software. There will be a subdirectory there with the specific name of the version of FCS Express you purchased. The config file is in the subdirectory.
  • On Windows Vista, 7, 8, and 10, go to C:\ProgramData\De Novo Software\. There will be a subdirectory there with the specific name of the version of FCS Express you purchased. The config file is in the subdirectory. Please note that ProgramData is often a hidden folder; if you cannot browse to this location, you will need to copy/paste the path into the Windows address bar.
